Roseacea Treatments

Atlanta, Georgia

Rosacea, is a common skin disease that causes redness and swelling on the face. Often referred to as "adult acne," Rosacea may begin as a flush or blush look, and then progress to persistent redness in the center of the face that may gradually involve the cheeks, forehead, chin, and nose. As the disease progresses, small blood vessels and tiny pimples begin to appear on and around the reddened area; however, unlike acne, there are no blackheads.

Rosacea treatments are aimed to control the intensity of this disorder. The treatments should reduce the appearance of the red, irritated, acne like breakouts brought on by Rosacea.

In treating Rosacea, heat from the vascular laser causes damaged blood vessels under the skin to collapse and disappear. The procedure usually lasts for about 15 to 30 minutes at a time. Treatments generally cover a small area of the face at a time. Typically, multiple treatments are needed. Because patients may need several days to recover from bruising, pain, redness, or swelling that may follow laser treatments, the treatments are typically scheduled at 4 to 6 week intervals.

With Rosacea the thickening of the skin (excess tissue) usually is not improved with the laser, however, dermabrasion will help it most cases.
